Residency Unpacked

Getting into a residency program is one of the most challenging stages in a physician’s career, and I want to help you get into a program. In this podcast we discuss topics like gaining the right experience before applying, how to perform well during interviews, ways to prepare for residency, and how to do well once you’re in. I understand your pain: I was an international medical graduate and had a two-year gap between graduation and applying to residency. I matched into a program, became chief resident, stayed on as faculty for two years before being promoted to Residency Program Director. I know how stressful this journey can be, so I want to share all my experience and knowledge to help you achieve your goals. My advice is honest, to the point, and encouraging. Listen to the weekly episodes and send me questions or comments so I can address what keeps you up at night! Every program has one. For us it was the "Do Not Rank" list; a list of names that we had to make sure would not end up on our Rank Order List for the Match because of one or more red flags identified during the interview process.
In this episode I share 4 of the most frequent scenarios that led to someone being put on the 'DNR' list. Fair or not, programs use every bit of information and interaction to make decisions on hundreds of applicants.
